Undergraduate students can find a variety of courses offered through the Department of Religious Studies, International Programs, and other academic units. Professional students are offered courses in Islamic law and jurisprudence, human rights law, and legal history through the College of Law. Finally, graduate students who are interested in earning a Ph.D. in Islamic studies may do so by applying to the department of Religious Studies. Students must be prepared to conduct their research in a multidisciplanry environment. Faculty members from a number of departments and colleges offer courses and independent research project for students who are interested in Islamic and Middle Eastern studies. Currently, the department of Religious Studies at the University of Iowa offers a general track, Islamic and Judaic Interdisciplinary Studies for PhD students interested in any of the sub-areas: Islamic studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, etc...
